… D-day came and we could not leave. The plane is still at Sinma repair shop due to an untimely lack of compression in two of the cylinders caused by an overheating of the valves. It is in the best possible hands, so it will be in perfect conditions to safely fly us to the Arctic.
On the other hand, as we feared, and in spite of their good will, the lack of staff and work overload experienced by Civil Aviation officers are slowing down the issuing of the necessary certificates for an appropriate dispatch of the plane. Much to our consolation, Michel Gordillo tells us that in his two round-the-world trips he faced last-minute technical and legal contingencies that prevented him from departing on the scheduled date.
However, every cloud has a silver lining. This delay is giving us extra time to thoroughly prepare the trip. Tomorrow we receive an additional 65-liter fuel tank that will allow us a further 2-hour and 200-mile flight range (eg Madrid – Granada). Although not strictly necessary at first, it will come in very handy if unexpected weather changes occur, if we take alternative routes, to have more independence in areas where fuel is scarce and to play with AVGAS prices – very changeable according to the airport, country and zone…
Last Tuesday we had a farewell dinner with the collaborators. Carlos and his wife Estrella’s wine shop filled with good energy, complicity, friendship, good food and good wines. Thank you all for giving the very best of yourselves to make this trip a reality; it’s us who will be physically travelling, but you will also be on board.
The Enoteca has hosted all types of events this spring, including the celebration of birthdays, tasting sessions as wedding gifts, sales and corporate presentations, and of course, our basic visit and tastings. Thanks to our collaboration with the rural hotel La Casona de Torres, we have received visits from many of their guests who want to enjoy local activities. The good news is that we are noticing an important increase in activity, perhaps a signal of the gradual recuperation of the world economy.
We would like to thank Studiosus, a German Tour Operator, who has included us in their 2012 Special Programs Catalog. You can visit their website, www.studiosus.com, for more information. We will be very pleased to receive their clients!

The concept of Qubél implies a complete project revolving around nature that permits involving our clients through not only a product or service, but also through emotions. As one-step more within this project initiated by the family Gosálbez-Orti, the visitor’s center Enoteca Qubél was created. Here we can share, in an imaginative way, our oenological experience and all of which, related to nature, ecology or gastronomy, that help us reach a state of pleasure.
Enoteca Qubél is a visitor’s center that includes the sale of our products, a meeting room and a facility for ageing bottled wine. It is located in the center of the village Pozuelo del Rey in the province of Madrid, about 100 meters from the winery and 5 kilometers from the vineyard, all of which is only 35 minutes away from the center of the city Madrid.
It is a place for the discovery, the education and the enjoyment of the senses associated with wine, gastronomy and nature.
The Enoteca offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a space where the traditional style architecture and the building materials natural to a rural setting, mix with innovative design and equipment. Meanwhile, the decoration incorporates noble and antique elements with practical ones to facilitate our activities.
The basement an area where we store and age bottled wine, that has become a wonderful cellar-type environment for groups to have a glass of wine and tapas.
The ground floor with its homey atmosphere serves for display and sales of our products, as well as a relaxed tasting area. The second floor a multi-purpose gathering room with room for 24 seated guests, outfitted with multimedia equipment and a kitchen for demonstrations.
We would like to propose a quality oenotourism and ecotourism offer only 30 minutes from the center of Madrid with the following activities:• Receive visitors who wish to tour the winery
• The sale of wine, accessories and other local and artisanal products from the world of wine and gastronomy.
• A classroom with courses, demonstrations and meetings on wine related themes, gastronomy, and nature.
• Rental of the facilities and its equipment for events and meetings
• On demand and organization of tasting and classes, tailored to the clients wishes.
The Enoteca was meant to compliment the project that started with the winery and the production of the Qubél and Mayrit wines, and we wish it to be a meeting place for the friends of Qubél.
