Gosálbez-Orti, S.L., a family run company, holds the ownership of the vineyards and winery. Our focus is to elaborate a limited production (currently about 15,000 bottles a year) of high quality wines from traditional Spanish grapes, meeting European Organic agriculture and elaboration standards, as well as having the classification from the D.O. Wines of Madrid. Our wines are produced taking detailed care of all stages of the transformation, with the objective of avoiding any resemblance of “manufacturing” wine. Carlos Gosálbez undertakes the direction of the vineyards and the winemaking.
The wine is marketed under the brand names Qubél and Mayrit, with packaging that has been crafted with as much care as the wine. From the premium quality Qubél line, Nature is our “crianza”, Paciencia our “reserva” and Revelacíon is our unoaked, all majority Tempranillo based blends. A minimum of 70% of Tempranillo is blended with our Cabernet and Syrah and occasionally with a little Grenache. Qubél Excepción, a 100% Grenache from vines more than 35 years old, has been made so far only twice, in exceptional years.
Mayrit, the name for Madrid in Arabic, is our line of younger wines, with little or no oak, and meant to be consumed more rapidly. The wines are produced in our winery with our grapes or grapes cultivated under our supervision. Currently, we offer one red and one white.
The most important recognition that we have received is from loyal clients that continue to buy our wine year after year. But since arriving in the market in 2002, several awards and favorable reviews have come our way, including being part of the Podium of Honor and one of the “New Spanish Values” presented in New York by the 2007 Guia Peñín. Our network of importers extends from Japan and North America to most major markets in Europe.
Our well developed wine tourism program has also blazed trails in Madrid, making us a preferred oenological destination for wine lovers visiting the Capital. As we are only 35 minutes from the city center, hotels such as the Ritz and the Villa Real and other agencies, reserve dates with us for their clients to visit the winery, our vineyards and our new visitor’s center, Enoteca Qubél. We never fail to make new friends and fans of Qubél from these visits.
