Seeing how green the vineyard was becoming reminded us that we start mother nature’s annual cycle again here at the winery. It was just as good excuse as any to send you an update with a summary of the spring bulletin.
For months now, the wines from the 2010 vintage have been resting in the winery, closely monitored by Carlos. Now the moment has come for the chicks to leave the nest as we have bottled the 2010 unoaked wines and made them available for sale. After the overwhelming success of Qubél Revelación 2009, it was obvious that our new reference would become a permanent addition to the catalog and that we needed to produce more. Therefore, we tripled the number of bottles of this unoaked red which is on sale at the same price as last year. For those who tried the 2009 vintage will immediately recognize the same intense fruit and great, full body.
Mayrit White 2009, the first white wine made and sold at the winery, was the other big success from last year. The wine sold out during the summer months and the reservations for the next vintage started to accumulate. With that vote of confidence, we were able to make the necessary arrangements to raise the production this year. Mayrit 2010 is an unoaked white that is lively and has a lot of personality. It sells for 5€ in our visitor’s center and of the recent visitors who have tasted it, almost nobody has left without a bottle in hand.
We have also bottled and released the new vintage of the red wine from the Mayrit line. Mayrit Barrica 2009 continues to be a majority Tempranillo blend with a good dose of Syrah, but it has spent more time ageing in oak than the 2008. The nine months in used oak barrels added structure and allowed time for more complexity to develop. It is also important to add that Mayrit Barrica 2009 is organically certified this year, ensuring that all Mayrit and Qubél lines are organic.
